Recently, the 12th International Bio-fermentation Products and Technology Equipment Exhibition 2024 was successfully held in Jinan. During the exhibition, Tian Linsheng, an expert in fermentation disinfection and contamination control, a director of the Third Council of the China Bio-fermentation Industry Association, vice president of TIANS, and general manager of the Intelligent Manufacturing Equipment Division, accepted an exclusive interview with Pharmaceutical Network. In the interview, Tian Linsheng detailed TIANS's distinctive service model as an engineering design group empowering the industrialization of new technologies, the intelligent equipment such as intelligent automatic cleaning machines and intelligent instantaneous sterilizing equipment machines exhibited during the exhibition, as well as the full-process automated fermentation technology. He also elaborated on his own views and perspectives on the future of the bio-fermentation industry.

The "14th Five-Year Plan for Bio-economy Development" issued by the National Development and Reform Commission in February 2022 proposes that during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, we should promote the integration of biotechnology and information technology, accelerate the development of biomedicine, bio-breeding, bio-materials, bio-energy and other industries, and strengthen the bio-economy. It is striving to make China's bio-economy reach 22 trillion yuan by 2025. The 2023 Central Economic Work Conference also proposed to develop new productive forces and build several strategic emerging industries such as bio-manufacturing, commercial aerospace, and low-altitude economy. As a basic industry of bio-manufacturing and a national strategic emerging industry, the bio-fermentation industry is a key direction for future development.

Tian Linsheng said that in recent years, the independent innovation capability of the bio-fermentation industry has been significantly enhanced, the level of equipment automation and scientific and technological content have been rapidly improved, and remarkable results have been achieved in energy conservation and emission reduction. The industry has shifted from the past model of focusing on scale to focusing on innovation and efficiency. At the same time, scientific and technological innovation is equally important for the bio-fermentation industry. With breakthroughs in synthetic biology, gene editing, microbial engineering and other fields, fermentation engineering technology will realize more efficient and precise strain design and transformation, improving fermentation efficiency and product specificity. This will promote the expansion of bio-fermentation products in more fields such as food, medicine, agriculture, energy, and medical aesthetics.

In the future, the bio-fermentation industry will pay more attention to green production processes. By optimizing fermentation processes and factory design, energy consumption and waste emissions will be reduced, so as to achieve low-carbon production and help realize the goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality.
