Every industrial leap begins with a fusion of ideas; every journey toward the new is made by a group of pioneers walking side by side.

On October 22, the 2026·TIANS Science and Technology Committee Expert Annual Meeting (hereinafter the “Expert Annual Meeting”) was convened at the Zhongmao Haiyue Hotel in Shijiazhuang. As the core segment of the 2026·19th TIANS Science and Technology Forum, this year's meeting brought together more than 40 industry experts and academic leaders from leading domestic and international research institutes, universities and enterprises, covering frontier fields such as fluorochemicals, electronic chemicals and synthetic biology. The guests held intensive discussions on national strategic policy directions, the evolution of global industrial technology, breakthroughs in critical core technologies and deep industrial-chain collaboration, jointly charting a strategic blueprint for accelerating the formation of new quality productive forces and building future-oriented new advantages in industrial competition.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Champion Chen, Vice Chairman of the TIANS Science and Technology Forum Organizing Committee, Director and Chief R&D Officer of TIANS Group.

Wang Jing, Honorary Chairman of the TIANS Science and Technology Forum Organizing Committee and Chief Scientist for Pharmaceutical and Chemical Engineering at TIANS Group, delivered the welcome address. Wang noted that global technological iteration and domestic industrialization upgrades are converging at an accelerating pace, and that synthetic biology, fluorochemicals and electronic chemicals have become priority directions under China's 15th Five-Year Plan. Yet in moving from laboratory results to industrial-scale deployment, frontier technologies often face a nearly impassable “Valley of Death.” Only by embracing openness and pooling the wisdom of government, industry, academia, research and end users can innovation outcomes be translated into hard-core momentum that drives industrial upgrading. TIANS has built this high-end industry technology exchange platform to establish a premium dialogue mechanism precisely aligned with industrial pain points, unclog innovation bottlenecks and spark collaborative synergies.

Forward-Looking Planning: Mapping New Industry Coordinates

Sun Funan, Member of the Organizing Committee of the TIANS Science and Technology Forum and Vice Chairman of the National Technical Committee for Gas Standardization, gave a keynote presentation titled “China's Electronic Specialty Gases: Status and Future from a Technology Perspective.” He noted that after more than two decades of effort, the domestic localization rate of China's electronic specialty gases has optimistically reached over 80%, and the remaining segments, such as precursors and isotope gases, are expected to break through around 2027. Mature product categories, however, are repeating the “involutionary” price-cutting path of ammonia, silane and nitrous oxide, while the gap in high-end products remains pronounced. He stressed that the industry must break away from extensive growth models and shift toward “specialized, refined, distinctive and innovative” development, step up the development of new purification technologies such as microchannel distillation and high-efficiency adsorption catalysis, and compete with a global perspective.

Dr. Richard Xue, Executive Chairman of the TIANS Science and Technology Forum Organizing Committee, Director and Chief Engineer of TIANS Group, gave a keynote presentation titled “From Lab to Factory: TIANS's Practice and Open Collaboration over the Past Year.” He noted that the scale-up stage “from 1 to 10” has long lacked a dedicated host, forming a “fault line” in the industry-academia-research chain: what stalls industrialization is often not the technology itself, but that middle stretch of the road.

In 2026, the TIANS R&D Platform was unveiled at the Hebei Tsinghua Science and Innovation Park, with the establishment of five specialized research institutes: New Materials, Fluorine Materials, Electronic Materials, Continuous Manufacturing, and Synthetic Biology Equipment. TIANS also launched FermSmart, an AI-based fermentation production analysis system that cuts process review from 3–5 days to 2–4 hours, making “every batch a golden batch.” TIANS is ready to link deeply with scientists through joint R&D, pilot-scale scale-up and talent development, acting as a strategic partner that shares risk and using the power of engineering to let innovation take root.

In-Depth Exchange: Pooling New Momentum for the Ecosystem

The parallel salons were organized around “three venues, three topics, one consensus.” The Fluorochemical Technology · Fluorine Materials Roundtable, chaired by Wan Baofeng, Vice President of TIANS Group; the Electronic Chemicals Technology · High-Purity Refinement Salon, chaired by Wang Xinxi, Chief Scientist for Electronic Materials at TIANS Group; and the Fermentation Control Technology · Smart Control Workshop, chaired by Leon Lou, General Manager of the Synthetic Biology Division at TIANS Group, focused respectively on the premiumization of fluorine-containing new materials, the purity limits and supply chain security of electronic chemicals, and the digital and intelligent upgrade of biomanufacturing.

The three venues addressed different topics yet pointed to a single consensus: only by closing the collaborative loop across the innovation chain, the industrial chain and the value chain, and tackling common challenges through the strength of the ecosystem, can the deep potential of Chinese manufacturing be unlocked.

Since its launch in 2017, the TIANS Science and Technology Committee Expert Annual Meeting has grown into an important hub of ideas connecting science and industry. This year's meeting not only offered participants a strategic window onto the direction of technology, but also, through deep industry-academia-research collaboration, injected new certainty into the high-quality development of advanced manufacturing. Looking ahead, TIANS will continue to leverage the strength of its platform, its engineering expertise and its drive for innovation to join hands with industry partners in writing a new chapter for China's intelligent manufacturing.
